THE BRIEF
Kissimmee's cultural identity is older than its tourism economy. Way before Central Florida was known for its theme parks, it was citrus country.
When Epoch Residential commissioned Pure Hart Studio for Sonceto Apartments, the brief was clear: create something that belongs here. Not decoration. Not wallpaper. Art that earns its place — rooted in the Sonceto brand and in the history of Kissimmee itself, while also harmonizing with the modern farmhouse aesthetic of the property itself.
THE APPROACH
Two murals — approximately 1,500 square feet each — were positioned on either side of the main outdoor amenity patio, functioning as a dual amenity activation: transforming the space into an immersive environment that gives residents a reason to gather, linger, and feel at home. The design carries the weight of local history while setting a mood: joyful, settled, and chic enough to be unmistakably of this place.
Since these murals would both be visible from the pool, they had to feel light and crisp. But they are also visible from nearly anywhere on the property – so they had to work at architectural scale. After some mood boarding and stylistic mockups, we started channeling citrus – not just in a literal sense, but the feeling – crisp and light, tangy and bold. .An abstracted botanical motif emerged: bold lemons and oranges rendered in graphic, modern form, with sweeping line work and a palette of yellow, green, and white that reads as crisp, vibrant, and alive. A few precise geometric forms hold the composition in the present — keeping the work from becoming purely nostalgic, and grounding it in a contemporary design sensibility.
THE WORK
The scale required working across multiple building stories. The finished murals are visible from across the property's central lake and from aerial views — landmarks that give the community a visual identity from every angle. At ground level, they serve as a backdrop for daily resident life: the fire pit, the pool, the quiet moments between.
THE RESULT
When Greystar acquired the property, the mural became the hero image for the entire Sonceto website and property marketing — a choice made independently, without any relationship with Pure Hart Studio.
